The Story Behind HeyCost
In early 2022, we were in a turbulent environment. Both work and life felt challenging. We wanted a new direction but did not know where to start. The only clear clue was money.
- What is our average monthly spending?
- How much do we have in savings?
- If we leave our jobs, how long can we sustain ourselves?
At first, we could not answer these questions. So we started tracking. Slowly, many unknowns became concrete numbers. The surprising part: the clearer the numbers became, the clearer our next step was.
If life is a fog, tracking is our first map
Six months later, we had a firm grasp on our finances, left our jobs, and started a studio.
The studio has now run for three years. We still track consistently and have benefited a lot. Along the way, we tried many tools and discussed many ideas, eventually forming our own philosophy of tracking. We built HeyCost to embody it, hoping it can help you find your way too.
About the team
HeyCost is backed by a 3-year design studio, Catalyst Studio. We keep the studio healthy through professional work and projects, and we continue to fund data security and ongoing development for HeyCost.
